Focus on Progress to Succeed
I only started running about two years ago. I say it is was because we lived in the northeast and it was too cold in the winter but it was probably just laziness. When we moved to Austin, Texas it was clear that I was out of excuses. I needed to jump on the train for getting in my outdoor activities. The only way it worked for me was to set a goal for running and to have a mechanism to track it. Whether you use your phone or a watch, it helps to see your progress. Look at these options for helping you get on track to meet any running (or walking) goals you set.
- Smart Watches – I personally use a Garmin Forerunner 235 that I think works great but there are a ton of options out there. The Garmin is simple and I wear it all the time to track steps as well. Hook it up to Garmin Connect and Strava to get the most out of it.
- Use Your Smartphone – If you don’t mind lugging around your phone when you get outside then you just need an app for tracking. I recommend trying out Strava.
- Time Your Runs – Sometimes it works to keep it simple. Don’t be afraid to simply set a time goal for running daily / weekly. Make note of the time you leave and when you get back. The goal here is to simply get out there and this way works for everyone.
